The pattern is derived from a simple block, rotated, flipped, and combined with a lot of mirror symmetry. I learned this design technique from Jinny Beyer's amazing book Designing Tessellations.
In this quilt, the unusual pattern allows me to use large patches of fabric while avoiding boredom and simplicity. The pattern is enhanced by relief quilting.
